The exhibition shows the different ways in which artists perceive fire, a phenomenon that has always fascinated them. Indeed, the living dimension of the flames, the moving play of shadows and lights, or the color palettes which result from it, are all cultural tools considered as real sources of inspiration for artists.
Fire, which constantly changes shape, offers great freedom of interpretation: from Paintings of Fire by Yves Klein to Combustions by Alberto Burri, Accumulations by Arman, and Chemins de feu by Bernard Aubertin; from Jannis Kounellis’ flower display and Christian Boltanski’s eschatological shadows, to Pier Paolo Calzolari’s ice burns and to Chen Zhen’s ashes.
