Figure and Myth in the Post-war Italian Creativity
5 January - 22 March 2012
Paris
The exhibition presents the creative experiences of artists as they use the artistic practice contemporary to postwar Italy to interrogate the theme of the myth through the figure of the other.
This exhibition assembles more than thirty paintings by artists from different generations who turned to myth and created a dialogue between Modernist Italian painters such as Giorgio de Chirico and Marino Marini; veritable Pop Artists such as Valerio Adami, Enrico Baj, Mario Ceroli, Tano Festa and Mimmo Rotella; as well as contemporary artistic expression such as Michelangelo Pistoletto and Vanessa Beecroft. Particular attention is paid to the Transavanguarde, focusing on works by Mimmo Paladino and Sandro Chia.
