The Casablanca Art School
Tate St Ives
Porthmeor Beach
27 May 2023 – 14 January 2024
Tornabuoni Art is pleased to participate in the exhibition ‘The Casablanca Art School’ through the loan of the work ‘Untitled’ (1967) by Carla Accardi.
The show resulting from the collaboration between the Tate St Ives and the Sharjah Art Foundation explores, for the first time, the intense period of artistic renaissance that followed Morocco’s independence, forged by the experimental teaching methods of the Casablanca Art School in the 1960s and 1970s, a pioneering school that paved the way for a new generation of socially engaged modern artists.
Works by 22 artists will be brought together, illustrating the great diversity of the Moroccan ‘new wave’, from lively abstract paintings and urban murals to applied arts, typography, graphics and interior design.
The exhibition will be open until 14 January 2024.
