Morandi and Fontana. Invisibile and Infinite
CAMeC, La Spezia
April 12 – September 14 2025
Tornabuoni Art is pleased to announce the loan of two works by Lucio Fontana, Concetto Spaziale. Attese (1967) and Concetto Spaziale (1954), to the Centro d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in La Spezia, for the exhibition Morandi and Fontana. Invisible and Infinite, curated by Maria Cristina Bandera and Sergio Risaliti.
The exhibition brings into dialogue two contrasting yet complementary voices of twentieth-century Italian art. Giorgio Morandi’s still lifes and landscapes, imbued with light, color, and a tension toward the unseen, converse with Fontana’s canvases: the slashes and punctures in the white surfaces open onto the invisible, offering a visual and intellectual experience of “beyond-space.”
Fontana’s works forgo figurative representation to open windows onto infinity, while Morandi’s paintings make the invisible visible, suspending objects and spaces in a fluid, meditative time. The dialogue between these two masters demonstrates how each transcended the conventional limits of art: Morandi by probing the essence of things, Fontana through a radical gesture that ruptures the surface.
The exhibition is on view until September 14, 2025 at the CAMeC Museum in La Spezia and is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue.
