This summer, the Mus\u00e9e Soulages, Rodez, in partnership with the Centre Pompidou and Tornabuoni Art presents the first comprehensive survey in France of Lucio Fontana\u2019s work in a decade: Lucio Fontana. There Was Indeed a Future – Un Futuro c\u2019\u00e8 stato. <\/em>Including eleven works from the gallery\u2019s collection, the exhibition showcases the breadth and depth of Fontana\u2019s revolutionary oeuvre.<\/p>\n

Born from a 2020 conversation between the museum\u2019s director and the now late Master, Pierre Soulages, the exhibition offers an invaluable opportunity to compare the work of two groundbreaking artists, who despite their differences, admired each other and shared a profound interest in the relationship between time and space.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_gallery interval=”3″ images=”59539,59536,59533,59530,59527,59524,59521,59518,59515,59512,59509,59506,59503,59500,59497,59494,59491″ img_size=”6614 x 4717″ css=””][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]The exhibition, curated by Paolo Campiglio and Beno\u00eet Decron, is based on the concept of the intuition of the future in Lucio Fontana’s work and the renewal of the status of art. It presents a unique journey centered around a dialectic between material and immaterial, and the concept of utopia, which presupposes a contradictory relationship of attraction and repulsion to concrete reality. Sculptures, works on canvas and paper, environments\u2014over eighty works are exhibited together for the first time. They are divided into three closely related axes: Matter-Light-Color (nature and figure, anti-nature and anti-figure), Active Space (Environments<\/i> and Teatrini<\/i>) and Utopia (Concetti Spaziali<\/i> and Fine di Dio<\/i>).<\/p>\n

This is the first major survey of Fontana\u2019s work in France in a decade. It follows the retrospectives at the Mus\u00e9e national d’art moderne – Centre Pompidou in 1987 and the Mus\u00e9e d’art moderne de la Ville de Paris in 2014. The Mus\u00e9e Soulages explores Fontana’s body of work before and after the War, in Argentina and Italy, showcasing the diversity of his creative output: from paintings and papers, to sculptures and ceramics, as well as light and space installations.<\/p>\n

Tornabuoni Art is one of the exhibition’s two main partners along with the Centre Pompidou – Mus\u00e9e national d\u2019art moderne, which has loaned 27 works to the Mus\u00e9e Soulages. Other lenders include the Mus\u00e9e des Abattoirs,Toulouse; Mus\u00e9e de Grenoble and Mus\u00e9e d’Art Contemporain, Lyon, as well as public institutions in Italy and Switzerland. The Fondazione Lucio Fontana, Milan, has been instrumental in facilitating rare and prestigious loans, as well as providing invaluable scholarly support.<\/p>\n
